Celebrating 400 years since the birth of Barbara Strozzi, Maniera showcases music of Venetian delight. A true daughter of Venice, Barbara Strozzi was one of the most prolific composers of vocal music in Venice in the 17th century. As a single mother of four, this forward-thinking, independent woman survived on her wits, performances, and compositions (in a time that most composers relied on sponsors and patronage).

The performers of Maniera are specialists in Early Baroque. They bring a warmth and joy to Strozzi’s music, reflecting its delicacy, pathos, understanding and unapologetic passion. Featuring early music specialist, soprano Sophia Brumfitt who hails from Salisbury and has performed at festivals and venues across the UK and abroad, as well as on BBC Radio 3 and on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, talking about the enduring love song.
