As Newport Festival’s weekend of fabulous events for The Big Splash drew to a close, crowds of families descended on The Riverfront’s Theatre to witness a hilarious comedy show aimed at the whole family featuring CBeebies presenter Andy Day and his long-term comedy partner Mike James.

Andy and Mike’s Big Box of Banana’s was full of madness, mayhem and the occasional dose of melodrama. All set against a backdrop of the pair’s colourful fun pad which saw them take receipt of a magical and mysterious box. Seeking a password to discover the boxes contents the journey took Andy, Mike and the audience on a series of fun adventures which involved them encountering pirates who don’t know their “ooo-arr’s” from their “ooo-errs”, a rather extravagant pair of air stewards, deep sea divers and TV presenters of Ocean’s Got Talent – Sunk ‘n’ Wreck.

Both Andy Day and Mike James energetic and quick witted vocal delivery kept children and adults laughing throughout the production with much in the way of members of the audience selected to take part in activities and dances on stage.

The Riverfront’s theatre was a barrage of joyful noise as everyone joined in with the actions and songs throughout the 90 minute performance. Equally impressive was the pair’s appearance off stage after the show to meet their young fans to pose for pictures and sign autographs.

Andy and Mike's Big Box of Banana's will be coming to City Hall on Tuesday 25 October Great half term fun
